All-Inclusive Resorts

The all-inclusive packages vary in price and in the types of food and beverage and amenities they include. But an important concept among them that all members should understand is whether they are "mandatory" or "optional" all-inclusive resorts.

If the resort is a mandatory all-inclusive, you will be required to purchase the all-inclusive package upon check-in.

If the resort has an optional all-inclusive package, that means the package is available if you choose to purchase it, but you are not required to purchase the resort's all-inclusive package in order to stay there. Please note, however, that you may not be able to purchase food or drink at the resort if you chose not to participate in the program.

These fees are based upon a matter of logistics. Many of the resorts that charge such fees are in somewhat isolated areas and may have limited access to potable water and foodstuff (e.g., in Cancun there are very few food stores). In these situations, the resorts must order food and water well in advance to ensure sufficient quantities are on hand for their guests. Therefore they charge an "all-inclusive" fee.
